Things are hotting up here at the office as we head full steam into organising Garterbelts & Gasoline 2013
The 5th annual GarterBelts & Gasoline Nostalgia Festival, will again be a full blown three day and night celebration of 1950s culture featuring hot rods, custom cars, live rockabilly, jump blues and Alt country bands from both Australia and overseas, international VIP’s, one of Australia’s finest traditional pinup contests, vintage fashion parades, shopping tour, kustom culture art exhibition, nostalgia movies in an old world theatre and one of Australia’s only and easily largest public road vintage soap box derby races. The weekend will again rock picturesque Tamborine Mountain on the Gold Coast hinterland and will include four separate venues, lots to see and do, wineries and vintage shops, take it easy or party hard, its your choice, there will again be VIP camping for vintage caravans and campers and camping for modern campers and vans also, lots of other accommodation on offer also but be quick! All of this just half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
The Queensland Labour Day Long Weekend
It is official, the Queensland Government has scrapped the Qld Labour Day long weekend as of this year. What this means is the Monday of GarterBelts & Gasoline 2013 will not be a Qld public holiday as it has been in the past, a bit inconvenient but no point complaining, it is what it is.
The festival will continue on as normal with the exemption of the art show which will close on Sunday night, instead of Monday, there will not be a Champagne Brunch on the Monday which did prove popular this year and the traditional Sunday Night Wind Down will be reconfigured with more details to come.
GarterBelts & Gasoline 2013 1/2 ?
With the moving of the Qld Labour Day long weekend being moved to the first weekend in October, this means that the Monday public holiday will align with NSW and Victoria, this has led me to make what seems like a obvious decision.
GarterBelts & Gasoline 2014 will move to the first weekend in October to align with the Labour Day long weekend, so as to not make the die hard punters suffer withdrawal symptoms from having to wait some 18 months between the 2013 and 2014 festival, we will run a GarterBelts & Gasoline 2013 1/2 on the first weekend of October next year, this will be a mini version of the festival with just one night of music, a second soap box derby race for the year and a rod and custom gathering to satisfy the hunger and this will then lead us into the 12 months until the festival returns in 2014.
For the Soap Box Derby Racers, this will be big news as they will get to race twice next year !

The GarterBelts & Gasoline Nostalgia Festival is a celebration of the cars, music, art, movies and culture born form the 1940s and 1950s. The weekend will feature the hot rod carnivale, vintage markets and traders, live rockabilly, western swing and roots music, a vintage soap box derby, pin up booth, “kustom kulture art” exhibition, nostalgia movies and much much more. This is a chance to dress up and escape the rat race of the daily grind in a picturesque part of the world.
NEW MUSIC VENUES !!
The big news for 2012 is that we have secured a much bigger venue for the Friday and Saturday nights. Unfortunately, last year a great deal of people missed out on tickets for the Friday and Saturday nights which is not good, this year we will be rocking at the Vonda Youngman Center which is in Main Street, North Tamborine, just up from the Zamia picture theater. There is a huge polished dance floor, heaps more room and there will be food and drinks available both nights. There is parking on site at the front of the centre for around 40 cars and then there is heaps of on street parking.
ACCOMMODATION
On this website you will find the best accommodation suppliers, all of whom are supporting the Festival, there are many different places to stay on Tamborine Mountain, ranging from beautiful camp sites to classy B&B’s, as well as cottages / chalets and hotels / motels.
PARK AND RIDE
Parking and getting to the Hot Rod Carnivale on the Sunday will be a whole lot easier. From 9am to 5pm, there will be a park and ride facility in place for non entrants to park at the Tamborine Sports Fields on Long Rd all day for just $5 and then ride a bus to the show grounds for a $2 coin, the buses will drop you off right at the Tamborine Show ground gate. Artists will be able to display and sell their Kustom Kulture and Automotive inspired art in the charming old world hall. The Show is open to Paintings, Photography, Carvings, Sculptures and Pin Striping and more. Hot Rod Car Show
Exhibiting Artists – Krash (Qld), Stan Thomsen (Qld), Cyclone Bullfinch (Qld), Dale Habberfield (Qld), LB Guzzler (Qld), Rastra Lyall (Qld) and Jodie Smith (Qld). Entry to art show is FREE.
7pm to Midnight – FRIDAY NIGHT ROCKABILLY BALL. The Vonda Youngman Center, Main Street, Nth Tamborine. Great food and drinks available, all ages, huge dance floor, on and off street parking.
Appearing live and in person are – The Drey Rollan Band (NSW), Pete Martini and The Freight Jumpers (QLD), Rocket To Memphis (WA), Special international guests Mars Attacks (Swizerland/Austria) and DJ Jamie Suppa (VIC).
There will also be vintage fashion parades proudly presented by Kitty’s Vintage Kitsch and The Shop That Time Forgot

This is a family event and a great way to encourage our young ones away from the TV and Video games and out to the shed with mum and dad to design and build something cool and special! Last year was a huge success and we have worked on making this years’ Soap Box Derby bigger and better, with more food traders for the punters, better racing structure to turn the race cars around quicker!
We will again be returning to our wonderful sponsors MT Brewery after the race at noon for trophy presentations and The Fuelers from the ACT for an afternoon on live music, good company and cold MT Beer. Spectators are free and it is $15 to race.

There will be traders on site for the evening and of course the highly popular GarterBelts & Gasoline Pin Up Contest with our special guest from the USA, Mitzi Valenzuela of Mizti & Co fame, Mitzi is the major sponsor of the Pin Up Contest and one of the judges.
